A pipeline, not a prompt
Most "AI development" is a developer with a chat window. The Shipyard is an assembly line. Work moves through fixed stages — research, product decisions, architecture, test specification, implementation, independent review, QA, release preparation — and each stage is executed by a specialised agent with a narrow mandate and a defined deliverable. No stage can be skipped. Every deliverable is written to disk, versioned, and inspectable after the fact: recon briefs, functional specs with acceptance criteria, architecture decision records, test scenarios authored before code, review verdicts with findings. If you audit us six months later, the paper trail is simply there.
Quality is enforced, not hoped for
Between stages sit independent review gates run by agents whose only job is to find what's wrong — and whose verdicts block progression. Tests are specified before the builder writes a line, so implementation is graded against criteria it didn't write for itself. Runtime smoke tests boot the real product and verify it survives contact with reality. Failures are captured as regression patterns and fed back into the system so the same mistake doesn't ship twice.
Deterministic orchestration
The choreography is code, not vibes. Work is decomposed into dependency-graphed items with acceptance criteria; builds run in parallel waves planned so that no two agents touch the same files; each agent works in an isolated workspace; stage transitions are event-driven and machine-verified. Agents supply the craft — the control plane supplies the discipline.
A system that learns
The pipeline has memory. Lessons are extracted from every build and review into machine-readable rules that future agents load before they start. The result is compounding: each product ships faster and cleaner than the last, because the factory itself is a product under continuous improvement.
Humans exactly where they matter
Autonomy everywhere except the decisions that are irreversible or strategic — releases, pricing, public claims, anything touching trust. Those come to a human gate by design. Everything else runs around the clock without waiting for a stand-up.
Model economics, engineered
Not every task deserves the most expensive model. Work is routed by complexity — frontier models where judgment is decisive, faster tiers where the task is mechanical — with telemetry on every stage. That routing is a large part of why our cost structure undercuts agencies doing it by hand.
Observable end to end
Every agent session, stage transition and verdict is logged and inspectable on a live board. When something goes wrong we don't guess — we read the trace, fix the cause, and encode the lesson.

Isn't AI-generated code low quality?
Unreviewed AI code is. The Shipyard exists precisely because quality has to be enforced by structure: tests specified before implementation, independent adversarial review between stages, automated runtime checks, and human judgment at irreversible decisions.
